SPIRITUALITY BEYOND RELIGIONS AND TRADITIONAL SPIRITUAL PRACTICES

In Childhood, all religions lead us to God through the Sacred Scriptures, Belief systems and Spiritual Practices. This stage goes on for some years even up to middle life. A time comes when the beliefs we held so strongly become meaningless leaving us in a vacuum. The Traditional Practices with which we had been nourishing ourselves spiritually fall off even without our awareness. We feel confused, helpless and sometimes feel guilty, fearful, empty and even depressed…..  . We are badly misunderstood even by our close and dear ones at this stage. We are not able to go back to our traditional beliefs or practices. If we do go back, they become a dead weight in our Spiritual Journey. We reach a critical moment – a moment when we need to move beyond (not against) religion and its teachings. The path will be a lonely one as no one can travel along with us. This is a time of personal search which needs a lot of inner courage.

All religions and their teachings including the Sacred Scriptures are pointers to God. They cannot limit and contain God. God is beyond!  No wonder, the inner spirit in all of us longs and needs to go beyond!

This Course is meant for those who are going through the above inner movements. It is meant for those who are in search. This Course will not show the path but will facilitate the path each one is moving in. The participants will be facilitated to share their spiritual journey in a confidential setting. The personal journey shared will be a great source of encouragement for all in our own journey.

IGNATIAN SPIRITUALITY

Ignatian Spirituality: Giving Space to the deep inner spiritual longings

The Spirit in us longs for deeper realization of itself in us. It is a natural urge in all of us human beings. Somehow we are satisfied with basic initial spiritual experiences and growth and get stuck not being aware that there are depths to delve into and to be spirit-filled. We think that spiritual life consists of miracles, devotional practices and living a good moral and ethical live – doing good and avoiding evil. These are just the beginning in one’s spiritual journey.

Ignatian Spirituality takes us beyond the Popular Beliefs about God and us. In this Course we will be dealing with Ignatian Spirituality that paves us a way gradually towards mysticism of Finding God in all things and all things in God.

  • This course helps all who desire a deeper Spiritual level of being.
  • There are many Congregation of Men and Women who follow the Ignatian Spirituality. This course will benefit them immensely to get back to their roots.

MIDLIFE SPIRITUALITY

Spirituality is never static though religiosity can be. It changes continuously as we grow and as we encounter different people and situations and God   in our life. This is more true when we arrive at midlife.

Mid life is the beginning of the second half of our life. At this stage our inner self invites us from breadth to depth of life. Many things that made sense to us now begin to be of less importance. This leads towards deep confusion and we don’t understand what is happening to us. God who was very close and personal to us becomes distant. Spiritual practices which nourished us become tasteless. Friends fall off like dry leaves leaving us with a very few inviting us to deep intimacy with those few. All these happen calling us to say good-bye to many things and persons we treasured. Old hurts which we managed to put a lid on, come up with vengeance. Sexuality comes back more alive at this stage embarrassing us.

The course will deal with all the above issues mentioned that happens at midlife and later. The course will help us to understand and accept and integrate the new happenings. It offers a spirituality that makes deeper sense.

You are welcome for this adventurous journey of your life.

NEURO LINGUISTIC  PROGRAMMING (NLP)

Neuro Linguistic  Programming is an effective method to study how the brain works, to become aware of the processes of thinking, feeling, learning, motivating ourselves, making choices, communicating and interacting with others, and to achieve realistic goals. NLP gives us powerful tools to change ourselves to be what we want. It teaches us the “Know How” of changing our negative thinking, harmful habits, limiting beliefs and unhelpful attitudes. It empowers us to have the right choices that make us successful and excellent in our life and work.

It will help us to improve our relationships, to do our work efficiently, to become confident, to become slim and to be happy wherever we are.

It is a tool to enhance our living in every way, including our spirituality. We can very well deepen our personal relationship with God, increase our passion for the poor, learn to pray better, and to remove the unhealthy religious beliefs and habits which bring fear, anxiety and guilt.

You are welcome to attend and benefit in your life!

COUNSELING COURSE FOR COUNSELORS

(A Certificate Course at Satyodayam – Jesuit Retreat Centre, Secunderabad)

The Emotional Quotient of our students, youth and even elders is quite weak to cope up with life events especially when they are unpleasant. Regularly we read in the news papers about people attempting to commit or committing suicide for very flimsy reasons. Quite often the members in the family/religious community/institutions are incapable or unable to create an atmosphere where one can share his/her pains and struggles. For good number of us, the home/community itself is the problem.

The emotional problems affect the person’s work, relationship, discipline, and the general behaviour causing unrest within self and with others. This is more true of students.

A counsellor is a person who accompanies another in his/her joys and struggles. Each Institution needs people who have a heart for others and who are available to the emotional needs of the others and lead them to healing and growth. Along with the heart, some counselling skills will be a great help; and so this course is handy.

This course is to equip the counsellor. There will be theoretical inputs with practice at every stage to make the skills become the second nature of the counsellor.  During the practice sessions, the participants will counsel one another bringing their real issues: learning by doing. The course is intense.

This course is focused mainly for student counsellors and to anyone who desires to help others (lay or religious/ priests/ seminarians/ sisters…etc.) in their emotional issues. Today our formees come with a lot of emotional baggage and this course will be very helpful to the formators.

In the final analysis all problems can be zeroed down to the problem of incapacity to handle one’s emotions that the unpleasant events bring. So the participants will be helped to go to the root cause of the problems and also to tap the inner hidden strength and potentials of the client so that the client will be able to sort out the issues and deal with them for healing and growth.

Satyodayam (Jesuit Retreat Centre) is conducting this course with the collaboration of the Psychology Department of LOYOLA ACADEMY (Autonomous PG and Degree College, Osmania University), Alwal, Secunderabad. A Certificate will be issued from LOYOLA ACADEMY at the end of the course.

You are welcome!

Venue: Satyodayam (Jesuit Retreat Centre), 12-5-33, Vijaypuri Colony, Secunderabad 500 017, Telengana State.

ENNEAGRAM AND SPIRITUALITY

The West found the Sufis (a branch of Islam) in Afghanistan using Enneagram as a tool to guide groups or individuals to Psychological and Spiritual Growth. The Western Psychologists and Spiritual Directors of Christian Faith found it a great tool of personal Growth.

Enneagram looks at people belonging to one of nine different types and each type has its own special compulsions and strengths and depending on that each one has a special path towards wholeness. One’s path is not the same as the path of another – “one’s food can be poison for the other”.

In this course the participant will be helped to trace and discover his/her type and also the path to holistic   growth. The course will help you to guide others if you are in a ‘helping mission’. So it is a great help to formators and counsellors and Spiritual Directors.
